(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction
Your basic “New Year’s Resolution”, whether related to your business or your personal life, is always more useful when coupled with some actual resolve. Let’s be real: In business, there are certain behaviors that are destined for failure:
Making out a detailed plan and then never once referring back to it
Expecting better results without making any changes
Promising to improve your time management as soon as you are less busy
Hoping that other people in your organization have successfully read your mind and are doing things you haven’t actually asked them to do
Assuming that “no news is good news” and that if no one is complaining, your employees are reasonably satisfied with how things are
If you own a business, it’s likely that you have committed one or more of the above offenses, because you are a human being and you are sometimes too overwhelmed to actually attack problems. The promises, initiatives, and great ideas fall to the side. The issues persist:
Feeling like you are making decisions without a plan and without a sense for unintended financial consequences
Feeling like you are not profitable enough and not positioned to take advantage of opportunities
Feeling too busy to manage or even implement needed changes
Feeling frustrated with your key employees, or with all of your employees
Worrying that you might lose a key employee and wanting to make sure he/she is compensated properly and has the tools to work effectively
