Where is the Love?
February. A month of Love and Groundhogs. Well, we have the first month of 2024 in the rearview mirror and what are you going to do? If yours is among the 1-in-1,000 businesses that practically just runs itself with healthy profits and minimal headaches, congratulations! But if you’re among the rest of us, we need to implement our ideas, and we need to do it now. We need to love our business.
That means caring for our businesses. In this part of the country, a lot of small business owners have the impression that the public sector doesn’t care enough about them. Combined with the normal pressures of day-to-day competition, employee management, and customer satisfaction, some of our peers have burned out – their love for what they do has waned. And if the owner’s enthusiasm wanes, what will happen to the employees?
One of the key themes in operating a successful business is control. Control means several things: leadership, policy, procedures, empowerment, and accountability. Not all of those are “numbers” things, but they all tie into your numbers. The power and comfort that comes from knowing your business model makes it easier to maintain that love for your business.
